Jack and I are hearing wonderful stories about Mom as a school teacher in the town of Murphy, North Carolina, what they learned from her, the difference she made in all their lives.
I was Betty’s daughter in law and as she put it, her daughter from another mother.
I shared a lot of time with Mom, glasses of wine before dinner, shopping trips to JC Penny to get that “Alfred Dunner” blouse on sale. She was my “taste tester” on specialties coming out of our kitchen, she was my biggest critic! She enjoyed the Italian club dinners and Casino bus trips.
Mom was an amazing woman, the talent she had, such a joy for music, sang with a beautiful voice, played the guitar, ukulele, we had long conversations regarding the Choir music I was singing for the upcoming Sunday Mass. With her beautiful hands, Mom quilted, wood carved, needlepoint, made lace. Mom also had a huge desire to learn new technology and she wanted the latest. Did I mention she was one heck of a golfer!?
Mom loved the Lord and was dedicated to Him, she read her bible every morning and a day did not get started till the reading was done.
Mom and our Bassett hound “Sofie” had a special relationship, Sofie loved laying by Moms feet all day, everyday...and Mom LOVED it! As Mom put it, “Sofie is keeping my feet warm”.
Mom was so loved by her “California, Oregon, Florida, & North Carolina families ; Gloria Binder, Nipping’s, Corso’s, Gullo’s, Bauer’s, Curtis’s, Salcedo’s and Brinke Families.
With her life here with us in California, we keep Mom busy with every celebration and event gatherings, she just loved to socialize and be around the young children.
.....No, this is not a life wasted but a life lived full, a life that was truly loved by all.
Mom, I know you are resting in the arms of the Lord, pain free, not struggling. I know you are surrounded by all that went before you whom you loved and missed.
I love you Mom, I am missing you.
Your “Daughter from another Mother”
Donna

I met Betty 3 years ago when I moved to Friendly Valley and started playing bingo. I always sat at her table and she always made me laugh. I was her ride to senior center bingo games. I admired her quilting abilities and fine baskets. She was a feel good person to have around. I am blessed to have had her in my life even for so short a time. Andrea Baker
