Obituary of Ernest Green Jr

Please share a memory of Ernest to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ernest Green, Jr. was born in Oakley, South Carolina, on Sunday, July 8, 1956, to the late Ernest J. Green Sr. and Mildred Green. In 1957, his parents relocated the family to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He received his formal education in the Harrisburg School District, graduating with the class of 1974. His classmates knew him as a talented artist. He was also a three-letter athlete, excelling in football, wrestling, and track. He continued his education at West Virginia State University, majoring in Art Education. In 1978, Ernest enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he excelled, reaching the rank of sergeant within three years. After his military service, he resided in Los Angeles, California. He worked for various companies until finding his career path with Volunteers of America, where he served for over 30 years as a Program Director. He managed multiple homeless facilities and assisted homeless veterans with housing, financial aid, and rehabilitation. In 2001, Ernest received a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Los Angeles in recognition of his exemplary efforts and contributions, which were of great value to the community and the city’s goal of making Los Angeles a better place to live. Ernest was a very dedicated employee—some would consider him a workaholic—seldom taking time off for himself or his family. Anyone who knew Ernest could tell he was extremely passionate about his work, as his conversations often turned to homelessness in Los Angeles and surrounding communities. Ernest was a loving and caring family man who always went out of his way for others. He would literally give you the shirt off his back. A highly creative person, Ernest possessed multiple talents, including painting, architectural design, furniture making, and home remodeling. In his spare time, he had a passion for building radio-controlled cars. He was also a talented chef, known for creating intricate artisanal cuisine that was both visually stunning and delicious. He certainly knew his way around the kitchen. On Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the age of 68, Ernest unexpectedly transitioned into eternal life in the peace and love of his home in Palmdale, California. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jerell Omar Green; his maternal grandmother, Lily Carter; and his paternal grandparents, Sarah and William Green. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory two sons, Jewellius Orryon Green and Juziahh Olympuss Green, both at home; his life partner, Marilyn Jemes of Arkansas; his brother, Willard V. Green (Toni) of Harrisburg, PA; Sandra Pruitt (mother of Jerell Green) of Los Angeles, CA; two nieces, Markia Erickson (Shelby) of Long Beach, CA, and Tanisha Autman (Anka) of Ashburn, VA; four great-nieces, Zuri and Marlo Erickson, and Ava and Iris Autman; and a host of other family members and friends. Ernest’s life will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, in the Chapel of Valley of Peace Cremation, 44915 10th St. West, Lancaster, California 93534, with viewing and visitation from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. The celebration will also be accessible virtually at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/5627262026?omn=83597101078 Submitted with the blessed assurance of our loved one’s eternal life, The Family
