Obituary of Roger Ellis

Please share a memory of Roger to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Roger Ellis, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on November 13, 1945, Roger was a long-time resident of Southern California where he created countless cherished memories with his family and friends. Roger leaves behind his loving partner, Kit, and his two stepsons, Tony and DJ, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. Known for his warm spirit and unwavering loyalty, Roger touched the lives of many and was always ready to lend a helping hand. After 40 years of dedicated service at Technicolor, Roger embraced retirement, where he spent plenty of time enjoying himself at home. He was an avid game show fan, especially Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. Evenings spent over dinner and shouting answers to questions will always be a memory held on tightly by family and friends that were able to share in that with Roger. Roger loved a good meal as well, and enjoyed making his self-proclaimed famous “Beer Chicken” when he could. His love for pizza and hot dogs was legendary, and he was never shy about scarfing down a good pie or sauerkraut-topped frankfurter. His most prized culinary role in the household was certainly the role of “certified taste tester.” You could always find him in the kitchen hovering around Kit as she cooked and baked. He tried to ensure “quality control” before any food left the kitchen, and usually had crumbs in his beard to prove a job well done. A passionate motorcycle enthusiast, Roger enjoyed the thrill of the open road and shared his love of riding with friends. Roger and his buddy Jimbo had some memorable trips to Las Vegas. Roger also loved the horses at the racetrack, especially the former Hollywood Park and Santa Anita Park. His affinity for the ponies even provided a memorable holiday “covert op” so that his eldest stepson Tony could propose to his now wife Mary. Roger was so selfless and found ways to put others first. Roger also enjoyed sports. He was also looped into soccer years ago as the game had been an important part of life for Kit, Tony and DJ. He has cheered at youth games and attended professional matches along the way. He was also a devoted fan of the NFL’s LA Rams, bringing enthusiasm and joy to every game day. There were some especially fun days in the house when Roger’s Rams played Kit’s Chiefs. Roger will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, humor, and camaraderie will live on in the hearts of those he touched. In honoring Roger, we invite friends and family to gather in celebration of his life at Valley of Peace in Santa Clarita on Saturday, September 28th. We encourage those joining to share stories and memories that reflect the joy he brought to our lives. Rest in peace, dear Roger. You will forever be in our hearts.
