Obituary of Delmar - Rens
Please share a memory of Delmar to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Delmar Rens was born on December 22, 1936. He passed away on April 30, 2024 at the age of 87. He was the last of eight children born to John and Mina Rens. Delmar was baptized as an infant in the Hull Christian Reformed Church. At age 20, he made Public Profession of his Faith in Jesus Christ in the same church. He lived with his parents on a farm near Hull, Iowa, until he was 21 years old. When his parents retired, he worked in commercial construction for two years.
In 1958, he married Henrietta Mae Kok in her home church in New Holland, South Dakota. It was a double wedding with her younger sister and new husband. Two days after the wedding, Delmar and Mae, with all their possessions packed in their car, moved to Burbank, California. Delmar worked for his brother for five years in the landscaping business. Later, he worked for different landscaping contractors, specializing in commercial lawn sprinkler work.
In 1987, he went to work for Sun Valley Child Care, a small hospital for severely handicapped youth, as a building maintenance worker and supervisor.
After moving to California, Delmar and Mae joined the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sun Valley, where they actively served and worshiped for forty-nine years. During these years they raised their two children, Judith Kelder of Keizer, Oregon, and Douglas Rens of Canyon Country, California. They in turn married Jeff Kelder and Adrienne Nicely. Each couple blessed his family with two lovely granddaughters who always gave him great joy: Laura Perry, Michelle Kelder, Cassandra Boesler and Ashley Rens.
Delmar retired in 2006. During his years of retirement Delmar joined Calvary Bible Church where he enjoyed his Sunday morning Sunday School class.
In 2021 Delmar moved to Sunrise at Sterling Canyon in Valencia, California. Here, he and Mae attended Grace Baptist Church where they found the Friends of Faith class to be a true blessing.
Delmar's favorite book of the Bible was Romans. He found great comfort in Romans 8:28-30 - a sinner saved by God's infinite love and grace.
Delmar is survived by his wife Mae, by his children, Judy and her husband Jeff Kelder, Doug and his wife Adrienne Rens, his granddaughters Laura Perry and her husband Drew, Michelle Kelder, Cassandra Boesler and her husband Caleb and Ashley Rens. Delmar had two great-grandchildren, Makenna Perry and Preston Boesler.
Per Delmar's wishes, there was no memorial service.
